Charitable Donations

Since 1889, Pittsfield Cooperative Bank has been committed to enhancing the economic vitality and social welfare of the communities we serve through charitable donations. A major focus of our charitable giving is directed towards education, youth programs, and community development. We receive many requests and while we try to help as many as possible, we are unable to take part in all of the great initiatives throughout our communities.

 

Organizations applying for a charitable donation must complete the required information in the online application and adhere to the guidelines below. One charitable gift will be awarded to an organization per calendar year. If renewed funding is desired, the organization must submit a new request each year. Organizations seeking funding for community sponsorships should visit our sponsorship section to review requirements and complete our application.

 

Funding decisions are based on available resources and the degree to which proposals meet Pittsfield Co-op’s priorities and funding criteria. Completed online applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. You will be notified via email of request approval or denial.

We support not-for-profit 501(c)3 organizations and their programs in communities served by Pittsfield Cooperative Bank that concentrate on one of four focus areas:

  •  Economic & Community Empowerment. This includes programs that focus on promoting and developing access to safe and affordable housing, and environmental programs that support community revitalization efforts.
  •  Youth Development. This includes initiatives that support youth through social, public education, athletic or cultural programs.
  •  Arts & Culture. This includes programs and organizations that provide art and cultural programs that enrich our communities.
  •  Health & Human Services. This includes programs and organizations that strive to enhance the health and well-being of children, families, and senior citizens in our communities.

To be considered for funding organizations must:

  •  Be recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Organizations that are not 501(c)(3) are not eligible.
  •  Apply for a program or project that meets one of The Co-op’s focus areas.
  •  Submit a completed Co-op Grant Application through our online system and provide such other documentation as may be requested.
  •  The Bank will not consider multiple requests from the same organization in the same calendar year.
  •  Any organization that has received either a charitable donation OR bank sponsorship within the current calendar year is not eligible for another contribution until the following calendar year.
  •  Pittsfield Cooperative Bank will not respond to written inquiries seeking financial support.

Pittsfield Cooperative Bank does not support the following types of organizations and requests, even if the applicant meets all other eligibility criteria outlined above.

  1. Organizations outside of our defined market area
  2. Fraternal, labor and political organizations, including fraternal orders of police and firefighters
  3. Lobbying groups
  4. Religious organizations
  5. Private foundations
  6. Intermediary organizations that raise and distribute funds in their own name
  7. Annual memberships and appeals
  8. Pass through donations
  9. Underwriting support for conferences or seminars, operating support or travel expenses
  10. Camperships
  11. Scholarship Programs
  12. Advertising, fundraising or incentive programs
  13. Individuals
  14. Third party solicitations
  15. Organizations with limited availability to general public
  16. Adult clubs, teams and/or associations

The Donations Committee meets on the fourth Monday of the month. Application deadlines are the first Friday of each month. If your request is time-sensitive and you require a response by a certain date, please be aware of these deadlines and submit your applications in advance of the meeting prior to the date you need a response. If you have missed the deadline and your request is time sensitive, we will do our best to review your application prior to our next regularly scheduled meeting.
